Summer Colors

When people think of Brillion Nature Center in summer, they usually think “green”. Green leaves on trees, working hard through photosynthesis to make energy for growth and seed production. Lush green ferns in the lower areas carpeting the woodland with their feathery stalks. Algae blooming in the shallow ponds warmed by the sun’s rays. Crops growing in the fields along the entrance road; grass in the lawn; perennials around building; moss on trees; green, green, green everywhere you look.
Look closer, however and you will see that summer at BNC is more than shades of green. Brilliant blue skies give way to black starry nights, dotted with white lights of stars and yellow flashes of fireflies. Bright yellow sunflowers and purple lupine adorn the tallgrass prairies. Myriad oranges, reds and yellows of butterflies flit from flower to flower. Bluebirds, red-winged blackbirds, goldfinches, Red-bellied woodpeckers, ruby-throated hummingbirds, orioles and cardinals decorate the trees and shrubs around the nature center bird feeders.
Construction around the building is adding its own coat of many colors. Brown mud displays perfect deer, raccoon and dog tracks. White TYVEC rattles in the summer breeze. Pink insulation inside the building gives a feeling of what it would be like to stand inside a mitten. Black shingles; gray cement; blond lumber; red siding; color, color, color!
Expand your palate. Come out to the Brillion Nature Center and enjoy the colors of summer.
